The decoration of cherubs, inspired by the baroque and rococo models of the 18th century, experienced a resurgence of interest during the Restoration and the Second Empire.
It illustrates the piety and religious fervor of the time, as well as the search for an ornamental and luminous sacred art , characteristic of the neo-baroque style.
The liturgical bronzes of this period were made by specialized workshops, often linked to the production of church furniture, such as Moncornet , Denière or Chéret .
