Superb antique Turkmen carpet , of Bukhara origin (Central Asia) , dated to the 19th century .
Entirely hand-knotted , it features the typical pattern of Tekke “guls” , these geometric symbols arranged in regular rows on a deep red background.
The composition is perfectly balanced, with a multi-bordered frame and a rich palette of red, brown, ivory and midnight blue tones.
This rug illustrates the exceptional skill of nomadic Turkmen weavers, who combined aesthetics, symbolism and robustness in their works.
The guls often represented tribal emblems or symbols of protection , and each rug was a unique piece intended to accompany the life of the home.

In the 19th century, Bukhara carpets were woven by the nomadic Turkmen tribes Tekke, Ersari or Yomut .
They served as floor mats, hangings and saddle blankets , each bearing the stylistic signature of the tribe.
These carpets were also traded on the caravan routes between Samarkand, Herat and Isfahan , which contributed to their worldwide fame.
