This superb piece of Japanese archival material from the 1930s features traditional calligraphy in black ink on washi paper. The elegant handwritten text is accompanied by a red seal (hanko) and a 3-sen Japanese revenue stamp , attesting to its official authenticity.

The document is written in a cursive, vertical style, typical of Japanese writing from the Taishō/Showa era. The fluid and expressive strokes testify to masterful work , probably carried out by an official scribe or scholar.

A true object of art and history , ideal for an Asian collection, a cabinet of curiosities or a refined wall decoration.

An old Japanese financial receipt, authentic and representative of the administrative records of the time.

Features :

  • Origin: Japan

  • Period: circa 1925–1935

  • Technique: sumi ink on Japanese paper (washi)

  • Details: personal red stamp + 3-sen tax stamp

  • Condition: very good for its age, with slight natural signs of wear.

  • A unique, authentic piece that cannot be found identically.

In the 1920s and 1930s, Japan experienced a major period of transition between tradition and modernity. Official documents, contracts, receipts, and important correspondence were very often handwritten in calligraphy and then validated by a hanko , the personal or professional seal indispensable in Japanese culture.

The tax stamp affixed to the document indicates that it is probably an authenticated receipt, contract or administrative document , as administrative taxes were paid in the form of stamps (similar to French tax stamps).

This type of document is rare today, as few copies have survived in good condition, especially with their original stamp and seal.
