Magnificent Japanese print from the Meiji period (circa 1890 ), depicting a naturalistic scene:
two birds perched on branches of red berries , surrounded by foliage and stylized flowers , in a decorative blue frame with geometric patterns.
This work illustrates the delicacy of the kachō-ga (花鳥画) movement, the Japanese art of painting flowers and birds , very popular at the end of the 19th century.
It is typical of the style of Watanabe Seitei (1852–1918) , master of Japanese naturalistic drawing and art director of the magazine Bijutsu Sekai .
The print is made using polychrome woodblock printing (nishiki-e) on washi paper , with well-preserved original colors (bright blues, reds and yellows).
This plate is authentic , taken from a Japanese art collection published in Tokyo around 1890.
